Spiritual Travel

I watched Eat Pray Love recently and it got me thinking about the number of people who travel for spiritual reasons. To find themselves. In the book, a divorcee travels the world on her own and she latches on to what this guy says in Bali.

The movie is a loose interpretation I think but travelling is really quite a spiritual experience. And when you combine it with visiting places of worship, with an open heart not just for the sake of saying you’ve been there, it can really take an effect on your life. I think many people travel with this in mind. And it made me think about the things we have here in India, because it is a hotspot for such travellers.

This article for instance paints a pretty picture with the author feeling things were “magical” and other-worldly. Obvious she got quite windswept. I think it would something amazing to do, if I did a spiritual trail of sorts sometime travelling within India to see interesting things like this. Buddhist, Hindu, Christian… temples etc. It is the kind of travelling you can do do alone I think, or with some good friends. I have met quite a few travelers flying to India just to find answers to their soul. Young and old. So why not see what it does for me?

We have such beautiful history and architecture.

Part of the reason for Maharashtra’s good karma is that Mumbai has been an important port for millennia, and the Buddha’s teaching often travelled along trade routes

The caves of Ajanta and Ellora, about seven hours northeast of the city, contain some of Buddhism’s most beautiful art and architecture. The 30 caves at Ajanta were carved out across several centuries, beginning in the 2nd Century BC, and have stunning ornate mural paintings depicting the Buddha’s life and former lives. Unlike other caves whose paintings have faded or been lost to time, Ajanta’s were abandoned and overgrown for several hundred years, which helped to preserve them.

See? Interesting right? Did u know that?

It may not be a party holiday but if it takes you outside yourself, it still is a holiday isn’t it? So there’s an idea for productive use of time!

Holiday with my Best Friend

Pooja is turning 21 in 2 months and we are planning something big. Of course the family will have their celebration (looking forward to Aunty’s chicken curry. yuuuummm) but I don’t think for the same reason. Lol. Girls just wanna have fun!

We are planning to take a little weekend away somewhere not too far. Just our first little fun trip together. Would be awesome as a roadtrip but we don’t drive and our roads are not like in the American movies so we will probably just travel on a bus. We’ll pay for one of the more expensive coaches so it’s safe and comfortable. Wondering if I should bring my laptop to watch some chickflicks to really get excited abt the trip lol!

We might take a flight instead also, if they are really cheap. I thought air tickets would be too much but it would save us time. Plus it’s exciting to fly.

Our friend recommended Wego India for finding cheap flights online. I never tried these fare compare sites before but it’s actually really helpful. I remember opening STA and all the airline promo deals you could find in the papers.. and getting confused jotting down allt he different combinations of routes. Pretty easy with this one. basically it compares all the fares from different websites, some of it the official airline website. So it’s neat. Save the Earth! Less of me scribbling furiously.

The flight from Goa to Udaipur looks like a good option. Read about it being one of the best destinations in India and like Venice — sounds very exciting already! just hope some Italian boys will also be there kekeke, Found these 2 blogs on Udaipur that make it sound quite interesting for a real experience as well: This man and this lady. Seems mostly about the markets (not so exciting for me) and the palace (much more interesting. Here are some pics

According to the page for cheap domestic flights in india  on wego’s travel bookings site, the other popular destinations are Hyderabad and Chennai and Kochi. Not so interested in Chennai, maybe the other two. Must calculate how long the flights are. I think there are budget airlines flying that route so shouldn’t be much difference in time and price.

We are going to have to plan carefully before we tell the parents our plan and hopefully our amazing skills will convince them it is a-ok! Exciteddddd!!  We gonna be like this:

Beauty Around the World

If you know me, you know I am always complaining about how difficult it is to find to good makeup for our skintone. You know how when you watch a movie, you feel like you relate? Or get really excited/inspired abt something and really want to try it out? And then you try and realise you cannot do it in your country.

(Haha! How awesome is that soundbite??)

I have often wondered how Halle Berry looks so perfect. Sigh. Jealous. Then looking at her husband and baby, got me thinking about how different looks can be super appealing.

Also i googled recommended foundation for women of darker skin tones and realised from the comments that actually the perception can be very different. Some girls hate to look like they have make up on. Some guys love thick make up. Some women prefer mineral makeup. Some care LOTS where it comes from etc etc. So many different things. It just got me thinking, since I am writing mostly about travel anyway… about different perceptions of beauty. This is not some Hollywood magazine argument. Just want to smile about some beauty, how it is from eyes.

INDIA: Of course I have to start with the most beautiful woman from India, Aishwarya Rai. I love that episode of Oprah where the very hot jockey from Argentina does a double take like WHOA when he sees her eyes. Hahah. She’s also smart for a beauty queen type if you watch the Miss World finals or hear her speak. Check out her Facebook here.

AFGHANISTAN: The girl who became famous for the amazing photograph of her doubly amazing eyes in National Geographic. It is the most iconic image of Nat Geo I think. The story here.

ITALY: Monica Belluci

Super hot. Super sexy and not ashamed about it.

FRANCE: Audrey Tatou

Very cute, u can imagine her with as little makeup as possible and looking totally pretty and adorable. Pink lipstick is prob the boldest she needs eh? Cute!

Zooey Deschanel: The very cute totally goofy Zooey has amazing eyes but this funny girly thing to her throughout. J’adore!

Scandinavia: Pixie like blondes like this one

Indonesia: Tanned Southeast Asian girls like the beautiful Anggun who used to appear on Channel V when I was music-hungry all the time (hated going to school!)

Asia: Maggie Q with her Asian-European mix. Prob one of my favourite looks, if you can even compare

That’s just some. Especially when I travel, I am astonished at the kind of beauty you can find. Imagine if we were all confined to one country? We would never see fair-skinned people, or oriental beauty or

Rochelle Aytes, with her immaculate curls. So beautiful! I wish had skin like that too.

There’s also an actress who is very very African in her look and so amazingly beautiful in this movie but I can’t remember the name for the life of me. She has a friend in the village who lives with an abusive husband and she gathers to women to chase him out… Ahhh must remember!

ANyway that’s something for now, beautiful women all aroudn the world. So interesting the way our skin and eyes and hair adapts. Maybe next time I will write about that.

Fave Songs of the Moment

Ed Shereen.

Ok to be honest I have no idea who this is. Only that his name sounded familiar. I popped his name into Youtube and BOOM! Fell in love with a song. I really like the modern-artsy Angel thing they did in the video.

Cheryl Cole

She seems to have made use of the sympathy people have for her since Ashley COle decided to be a jerk. BUt hey! Girlpower! Good job girl.

Lovelove this video where she doesn’t give a hoot about anything. She is such an annoying little girl but how many guys do we know that are just irritating jerks all the time? Why can’t girls be the same, just for the heck of it? Love it. And she teases all the boys. And she looks amazing too of course. A little bit of a vintage look, a bit bratty and kinda trashy too. Niiiiceee

The Way You Make Me Feel

This is an old one, but never lost any love for the King. The girl with the curly hair is iconic in this video with the silhouettes and water spray etc. Such a good song. Great lyrics. And also fun to see how he pursues the girl.

Real Life: India and Beyond

Now that it is my last year in university, I have been thinking about where I want to be. I know I have lots of time but having older siblings, I know from their experience that it’s good to figure it out early and dive straight in rather than waiting.

I really want to live abroad. But i haven’t decided where. Hmmm… Somewhere that has a beach nearby would be cool, a bit like home. But before that i would love to feel snow and autumn leaves n all that other cool stuff!

I have many friends who want to travel. But we need to get our drivers license n all that stuff so we can have an awesome time here first… So how exactly do I save for my travels? Hmm. Maybe it’s time to think abt a pt job. Maybe I will meet a handsome man on the way… LOL!

Meena is in love with Italy. RObbie with Thailand. I haven’t decided where I really love… I know I would love to see Nepal someday soon but after that I’m not sure where. Maybe it’s better, so its easy to follow my friends. That would be SO awesome if we got to do Road Trips like the movies eh?! Something like Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants would be awesome. Ahh. I want to fall in love with a Greek boy toooooo… Shh dont tell my parents lolz.
